CPD Online

Like many other health professionals pharmacists are encouraged by registering boards and professional organisations to participate in CPD. In 2007 SHPA introduced , a professional development framework based on the principles of competency and lifelong learning. The framework seeks to draw together different continuing education activities into a personal development plan for each practitioner.

One of the important objectives of the CPD framework is to move practitioners from participating in CE activities that involve passive knowledge delivery (Group 1 CPD activities) towards activities that improve knowledge and skills (Group 2 CPD activities). One strategy SHPA has identified is offering multiple choice questions that allow members to test their understanding of the content provided.

In a new initiative selected articles from the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research (JPPR) and the Australian Journal of Pharmacy (AJP) and selected presentations available through CE on CD disks have been accredited by SHPA as suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist's CPD plan.

In addition multiple choice questions on selected presentations given at SHPA CPD events (Branch symposiums, SHPA seminars etc.) have been accredited by SHPA as suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist's CPD plan. Note: the option of these multiple choice questions is only available to attendees of that particular event.

A series of multiple choice questions that can assist you with evaluating your learning outcomes can be downloaded and answers to these questions can be entered electronically for up to a year after initial publication, presentation or distribution.

To assist members with assessing their learning outcomes each includes learning objectives and the relevant competency units from the Competency Standards for Pharmacists in Australia 2003.
