SHPA Vic Branch | Leaders Summit

The SHPA Vic Branch committee is proud to present our one day face-to-face symposium, “Leaders Summit”.  This symposium is for emerging and existing leaders within the hospital pharmacy workforce in Victoria. The Vic Branch committee have recruited a stellar line up of speakers who will discuss topics such as: wellness, recruitment and retention, and financial literacy.

A COVID-19 Safety Plan has been provided by the venue and the organising committee has measures in place to support COVID-19 safety.

There will be an opportunity for networking at the end of the day. We look forward to welcoming you and being all together once again.

Ray Good

In the early 90s, Ray Good (aka Sugar Ray) was one of the world’s Top 100 DJs, spinning the decks at sold-out raves in London, Tokyo, and Berlin and running dance parties for thousands of people.
It was a wild ride, but life as a globe-trotting DJ doesn’t leave much time for sleep or inner tranquillity, burning out Ray turned to mindfulness meditation and has had a daily practice ever since.
As the founder of The Good Place, Ray Good is on a mission to create a more mindful world and help fight the global mental health crisis. Ray teaches mental fitness, high performance and mindfulness grounded in neuroscience and positive psychology to help individuals, teams and organisations fight stress, think better and perform at their peak.
Over the past 29 years Ray has had a daily meditation practice, taking him on a journey travelling the globe and learning from the world’s leaders in mindfulness, meditation and neuroscience.
During the COVID-19 crisis Ray has helped many of Australia’s biggest companies look after their team’s mental & emotional wellbeing and navigate the current work climate through his virtual workshops and keynotes.
His clients have included Tourism Australia, The Victorian Government, Tennis Australia, RACV, Macquarie bank, Westpac, Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, Meridian Energy, Gelato Messina, Carsales and Nova Entertainment to name a few.
Ray has spoken at many large scale events and conferences including Pause fest, Australia's leading business and innovation event alongside speakers from NASA, Google, Facebook, and Amazon.

John Evans:

John Evans is Executive Director, Pharmacy Services and a pharmacist partner at Slade Pharmacy. Slade Pharmacy is part of the Icon Group, an Australian-based, global cancer care company. As part of pharmacy division, John co-leads operational service delivery to more than 65 hospitals and 1,000 staff nationally. In this role he responsibilities across people, finance, IT. A key driver for John’s work is the transitioning of technical experts into effective and influential leaders and managers. In a previous life he spent 15 years working for The Salvation Army. In his spare time he loves the suffering and exhilaration of adventure racing.

Kay Dunkley:

Kay is passionate about the health and well-being of health professionals. After forging a career based in hospital pharmacy prior to having children, Kay has over the years also been involved in roles providing services which support pharmacists and other health professionals. These roles have included working for the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (Victorian Branch), the Victorian Drug Usage Advisory Committee (VDUAC), the Victorian Medicines Advisory Committee (VMAC) and the Victorian Therapeutics Advisory Group (VicTAG).

Currently Kay is employed as the Executive Officer of the Pharmacists’Support Service (PSS). The role with PSS lead to employment by AMA Victoria to establish and coordinate their Peer Support Service for doctors and medical students which is based on the PSS model. At AMA Victoria Kay also coordinates the Peer Visitor Program matching elderly isolated doctors with volunteer visitors who are medical students or doctors. In addition she shares the role of coordinating the mentoring program at AMA Victoria. Kay has also previously worked as an accredited consultant pharmacist undertaking medication reviews

Professor Catherine Crock, AM

Catherine has worked closely with patients and families to redesign services and improve quality and safety. She is Chair of the Hush Foundation which transforms healthcare culture through the arts. Hush produces specially composed Australian music to reduce stress for children, families and staff.

In collaboration with playwright Alan Hopgood AM, Catherine developed plays which are performed in hospitals and Aged Care to raise awareness of patient centred care, communication and patient safety.

She cofounded the Gathering of Kindness, a movement promoting a kind health system. She received the Member of the Order of Australia in 2015 for her contribution to medicine, to community healthcare standards and to the Arts. She also holds a Monash Fellowship 2020 and is a Professor at Deakin University, Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development.

Vinod Chellaram

Director of Pharmacy, Northern Health

Vinod has spent the last 15 years of his career caring and making a difference for the people of the northern suburbs of Melbourne - from his start as a pharmacy student to now the Director of Pharmacy at Northern Health. He is an experienced pharmacist with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and health care industry with skills ranging from clinical research & trials , medical education as well as specialized clinical knowledge in haematology and oncology.


Paul Toner

Director of Pharmacy, Royal Melbourne Hospital

Paul is an experienced pharmacy leader who has held senior roles across a range of portfolios in both Australia and the UK. He is passionate about the continuous development of the pharmacy profession, improvements to patient care and supporting staff development to meet their career goals. He is also the current president of the VicTAG management committee promoting the quality use of medicines

Diana Sandulache

BPham (Hons), MPharmPrac, Adv. Prac, Pharm

Diana is the Deputy Director of Pharmacy – Workforce and Culture at Alfred Health. Diana manages the recruitment and retention of a department of over 300 staff, as well as overseeing staffing, rostering and the wellness programs. Diana also leads the education portfolio, having significant experience in the set up on education and training initiatives, such as the Foundation and Advanced Residency programs.

Olivia Rofe

Masters in Clinical Pharmacy, a Professional Certificate - Health Systems Management and is a Fellow of SHPA

Olivia is the Program Director Acute & Aged Medicine at Eastern Health, Site Director Peter James Centre & Wantirna Health and has over 20 years of public hospital experience both in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy, a Professional Certificate - Health Systems Management and is a Fellow of SHPA. One of the first SHPA clinCAT trained evaluators in Victoria,

Olivia has supervised, mentored and/or overseen workforce training programs for more than 10 years. Olivia is passionate about putting patients/clients/consumers first and understanding their experience of services ‘in their shoes’, working with service users to optimise their experience and health outcomes. Other areas of interest include improving the delivery of clinical pharmacy services through developing diverse intergenerational workforces and harnessing the ongoing digitisation of workplaces to optimise health outcomes.

Jerry Yik

Jerry is Head of Policy and Advocacy at SHPA. He leads SHPA’s diverse policy and advocacy activities, highlighting health and pharmacy policy issues to the relevant stakeholders including parliamentarians, government departments, regulatory bodies, clinical and safety agencies. Harnessing member expertise, SHPA's Policy and Advocacy team demonstrates the continuing expertise, innovation and high standard the hospital pharmacy sector sets, as well as the challenges faced by the sector to provide high quality, safe, equitable and accessible pharmacy services to Australian patients in all healthcare settings

David Ford

B Pharm, MPS, PhC, MSHPA, Grad Dip Hosp Pharm Admin

David Ford is a proven hospital executive with 35 years of clinical and management experience in hospital administration and department directorship. He is currently the director of David Ford Healthcare consulting and concurrently holds the position of Executive Director Pharmacy & Development, North East Health, Victoria, Australia. This Executive position has responsibility to the NHW Board, CEO and Executive for a $30M capital redevelopment which includes new ICU, ED, Short Stay, Medical and Paediatric units. He has managed multiple hospital pharmacy departments in major teaching and regional hospitals across Victoria and held executive management positions at both Melbourne Health & North East health.

James Dwyer

Pharm Master of Public Health FSHP.

James Dwyer is currently Director of Pharmacy at Mercy Health, overseeing pharmacy operations at two busy hospitals in Melbourne: Mercy Hospital for Women (a specialist Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Heidelberg), and Werribee Mercy Hospital (a general teaching hospital in an expanding growth corridor). He has practiced for over 20 years in public and private hospital pharmacy, and has held various state and national roles with SHPA.

Kristin Michaels

Kristin Michaels has been the Chief Executive of The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) since 2015, a time that has seen record membership growth and retention and a revolutionised role as the indispensable professional partner for Australia’s leading community of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

A contemporary Chief Executive with almost 20 years’ experience within healthcare organisations, and through Board Directorships in both the primary and acute sectors, Kristin has modernised SHPA in step with the evolving nature of Australian healthcare, implementing agile operations and guiding the development of new strategic directions to position SHPA for future growth. A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Kristin also has extensive experience as a professional mentor and executive coach and is a qualified futurist.

Briana Baass

Briana is the Chief Allied Health Officer of Victoria. She has more than 20 years of experience in the health sector across Australia, including clinical treatment, health service operations, various roles in a government department and seven years of consulting in a large global firm. She is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a graduate of the College’s Management Residency Program and in 2017, she was appointed to the National Board. Her experience is aligned to organisational performance as well as health system reform; in particular in the areas of health sector governance and connecting touchpoints across the system. With a background in clinical prosthetics and orthotics, Briana has provided direct care to people with acute, chronic and complex needs. She has also spent several years focusing on mental health including working together with Beyondblue on evaluating the NewAccess program, with a particular focus on reaching men across Australia.

Rachelle Anstey, Chief Financial Officer, Monash Health

Rachelle Anstey joined Monash Health in 2021 as Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for Procurement, Logistics, Internal Audit, and Financial Services. Rachelle has a strong record of achievement and a wealth of experience across a broad range of industries and organisations, including public health. An expert in continuous improvement, Rachelle focuses on improving reporting and decision making for all levels of the organisation. Before joining Monash Health, Rachelle was Executive Director of Finance at Peninsula Health, providing critical insights and commercial guidance to support the organisation’s strategic direction. Rachelle has also worked in senior finance roles for Alfred Health, Melbourne Water and RACV, leading large teams to deliver successful financial, payroll and revenue services alongside procurement and supply programs.


Rachelle is adamant though that her job does not define her, and that despite the focus on financials, people matter to her so much more than numbers. Rachelle believes that being an accountant comes with certain perceptions, but for her, it’s important to do a job that is truly meaningful. She wants to know that what she does has an impact, and that people will really benefit from a financial decision that she has made.

On weekdays between 7:30am and 6:30pm, up to 11-hour metre parking is available on The Avenue (park side) and Walker Street at $0.80 per hour. Accreditation

This activity has been accredited for 5.75 hours of Group-1 CPD (or 4.41 CPD credits), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.

Cancellation policy

  • Membership rate is only applicable if you are a member at the time of the seminar. Should your membership lapse, or if you resign you will be invoiced for the difference in registration.
  • Cancellations must be made in writing.
  • Cancellations received before 6 weeks prior to the event will receive a full refund. Non-members will be charged a $50 handling fee.
  • Cancellations received between 6 weeks and 1 week prior to the event will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.
  • Cancellations received less than a week prior to the event will NOT be refunded.
  • SHPA reserve the right to cancel a seminar or make changes to the program
  • If SHPA cancels or defers the event you will receive 100% of the registration fee but SHPA bears no responsibility for any costs incurred  (such as flights, accommodation, travel or expenses) or loss of income.
  • It is recommended that participants obtain adequate insurance cover for travel and accommodation.
  • Transfer of registration – as an alternative to cancellation your registration may be transferred to another member of your organisation or another event (if the chosen seminar is a higher cost you will be subject to further charges). A request MUST be made in writing to the Federal Secretariat prior to the event.
  • If you are unable to attend SHPA policy is that handouts can not be made available as ‘stand alone’ materials
