Grants

SHPA offers a range of research and development grants with the aim of improving the techniques and practice of hospital pharmacy services in Australia through research, study and demonstration. 

The aims of the program are to encourage original research in hospital pharmacy practice and related areas and foster professional development amongst SHPA members.

Eligibility

Unless otherwise stated in the grant conditions, grants are open to all members of SHPA, including student and technician members. However applicants must have a minimum of 12 months current membership to be eligible to receive a grant, except student members (including intern members) who must have at least 3 months current membership. The date of membership commencement is listed on each member's certificate.

SHPA members can apply for funding for scientific research, projects, courses of study, conference attendance, study tours or other development activities.


Research and Development Grants Advisory Committee

Members of the Research and Development Grants Advisory Committee include: a Federal Councillor, a nomination from Federal Council, a practising hospital pharmacist, an appropriate academic (e.g. a clinical pharmacologist), a Branch Committee member from the region hosting the Committee. The Committee has the power to co-opt to a maximum of eight members.

Hospira Young Pharmacist Award 2016
A grant of $10,000 will be made available to a member of SHPA for a national or international preceptorship.

Novartis SHPA Pharmacoeconomics Grant 2016
Recognising the need to build on knowledge in pharmacoeconomics, Novartis is proud to be associated with SHPA in providing grants for suitably qualified pharmacists to undertake educational courses or research work that would further strengthen their roles as part of the multi-disciplinary team of hospital formulary decision-makers.

The Australian Health Economics Society website has examples of suitable courses.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available.

Sanofi Pamela Nieman Continuum of Care Research Grant 2016
Sanofi Australia is pleased to offer this research grant, valued at $10,000, to members of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia to enable specific research into processes and outcomes that optimise medication management across the health care continuum.
