Abstracts record smashed as MM2018 build-up begins
A late surge in submissions last week has seen the final number of abstracts submitted for Medicines Management 2018 reach a new high of 733, smashing the previous record by more than 15%, showing an unprecedented level of enthusiasm from Australian hospital pharmacists and technicians to showcase their innovation at this year’s conference.
With the final number of abstracts submitted almost 100 more than the previous record of 637, set in 2015, the 44th SHPA National Conference in Brisbane in November promises to be the most scientifically competitive in the event’s history.
SHPA Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says the incredible commitment shows hospital pharmacy is more energised than ever.
‘We know practice-changing pharmacy activity takes place in departments and multi-disciplinary teams every day, so it is exciting to see this reflected in record demand to showcase work at Australia’s largest annual scientific pharmacy conference.
‘As our theme frames so well, 'it’s time' for pharmacists and technicians to step up, put forward their best ideas, partner with other organisations and collaborate with other health professional groups to ensure pharmacy practice keeps advancing and improving outcomes for Australian patients.’
In addition to the dynamic three-day program of presentations and posters, representing the pinnacle of Australian pharmacy research and innovation, MM2018 will again feature popular lead-in workshops.
‘Delegates have a unique opportunity to gain a professional edge in advanced leadership or in research, or to accelerate specialty development by engaging with leaders in the field at interactive workshops hosted by Specialty Practice Leadership Committees in Education and Educational Visiting, Mental Health, Electronic Medication Management, Infectious Diseases and Medication Safety.’
‘With several pre-conference sessions at capacity in Sydney last year, pharmacists keen to take advantage should register early to avoid disappointment.’
Early bird registration for MM2018 closes 5pm AEST, Friday 21 September 2018
