Another record broken as MM2019 early bird registration opens

For the second year running, enthusiasm from Australia’s growing force of hospital pharmacists and technicians has seen a record-breaking number of abstracts submitted for Medicines Management, the SHPA National Conference.

After submissions flowed in until the last minute of the midnight deadline, a total of 738 abstracts were received for Australia’s largest scientific pharmacy conference and, today, early bird registration opened for Medicines Management 2019, the 45th SHPA National Conference on the Gold Coast this November.

SHPA Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says MM2019 will make waves as practitioners showcase their innovation and ingenuity at the cutting-edge conference.

‘Papers have come in from all corners of the country and we are thrilled to open registration and begin the build-up to this exciting event, which marks our first truly national conference with convenors and organisers hailing from all seven SHPA Branches.

‘Befitting our beachside setting, MM2019 is all about “making waves” – waves of disruption ripple outward when new evidence challenges the status quo, waves of impact are created when we share practice innovations with colleagues and peers, and sound waves are amplified when we raise our collective advocacy voice to improve pharmacy practice and patient care.’

Ms Michaels says the MM2019 program will feature plenaries and presentations representing the pinnacle of Australian and international hospital pharmacy, kicking off with the popular lead-in workshops.

‘Our expanding pre-conference program will help delegates gain a professional edge in their practice, leadership and accelerated specialty development by engaging with leaders in the field. This year will see interactive workshops hosted by Specialty Practice Leadership Committees in Cardiology, Education and Educational Visiting, Geriatric Medicines, Medicines Information, Rural and Remote Practice, Palliative Care – facilitated by Indigenous Allied Health Australia – and a special collaboration between Paediatrics and Neonatology and Women’s and Newborn Health.

‘With national and international speakers, unparalleled motivation and networking – and our famous Gala Dinner celebration – we encourage pharmacists, technicians and anyone with a stake in the future of the profession to register early and avoid disappointment.’

Early bird registration for MM2019 closes Monday 16 September 2019.
