More opportunities through new Specialty Practice Framework
SHPA is excited to announce some changes to specialty practice. For many years, our Committees of Specialty Practice (COSPs) have served SHPA and its members exceptionally well, thanks to the dedication and hard work of members who volunteer their time and expertise undertaking vital work for SHPA.
After reviewing the COSP model and responding to feedback from members, SHPA has developed a new Specialty Practice Framework which is ready for launch on 1 June 2017.
From June, the Specialty Practice Framework will comprise 26 Specialty Practice Streams, each of which offers three levels of engagement – Interest, Practice and Leadership, meaning there are more opportunities for you to be involved. With increased support from the Federal Secretariat, the streams will also be supported to achieve their goals (see Figure 1 above).
Interest Groups will be the entry level for Specialty Practice Streams and are for any member working in a specialty or a related area, and those who are just interested. Joining is easy – you will just need to select from the list of Interest Groups on the SHPA website and we encourage you to do this when you renew your membership. You will be able to join multiple Interest Groups.
Practice Groups are for members with demonstrable commitment to the specialty. In the months following the establishment of Interest Groups, we will invite eligible members of Interest Groups to apply to join the corresponding Practice Group.
The Practice Groups will each elect a Leadership Committee, which will be a dynamic group of members driving the activities of each stream. The initial projects will be Standards of Practice and Expert Practice Frameworks for residencies.
We look forward to launching this new framework which will support the practice of all members, at all levels of expertise. Start thinking about which streams you would like to join and look out for more information closer to 1 June. If you have any queries, please contact Suzanne Newman at the Secretariat.
