SHPA congratulates leading pharmacists among Australia Day honours

The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) has congratulated members recognised for their impact on Australian healthcare in the 2019 Australia Day honours over the weekend.

Dr Geraldine Moses MSHP, Adv. Prac. Pharm and Jim Siderov MSHP, Adv. Prac. Pharm were both honoured with the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in last Friday’s ceremonies.

Based in Queensland, Dr Moses’ is a doctor of clinical pharmacy specialising in drug information, whose experience has seen her influence education in the complex area of drug-drug, drug-disease, drug-food and drug-gene interactions. An honorary life member of NPS MedicineWise, Dr Moses provides medicines information to members of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) nationally, works part-time at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane and as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy, University of Queensland.

Mr Siderov, an SHPA Fellow based at the Austin Hospital in Victoria, was elected to the Leadership Committee of SHPA’s Oncology and Haematology Specialty Practice stream in 2017. With a strong interest in colorectal cancers, Mr Siderov is is former Chair of the Cancer Pharmacists Group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia and the Standards Committee of the International Symposium on Oncology Pharmacy Practice.

SHPA Chief Executive Kristin Michaels says the honours are worthy acknowledgment of the specialty expertise hospital pharmacists bring to national education, innovation and policy in medicines management and clinical practice.

‘It is fitting to see Geraldine and Jim’s years of contribution honoured on the national stage.

‘Many pharmacists were honoured alongside them, an outstanding indication of the vibrancy of pharmacy in this country and the dynamic and inspiring leadership our profession enjoys, to the future benefit of all Australians.’
