SHPA Webinar | Digital advancement and AI in pharmacy services

Advances in technology are reshaping many industries. Whether it is automating workflows, enabling the redirection of resources from repetitive tasks, or delivering data driven insights. The promise of digital advancement is often dreamt about but for many the process to create a culture capable of navigating the expertise required may be difficult to identify or implement.

From the popular talk on AI and the future of pharmacy at MM2023 Michael Bakker (SA pharmacy digital health portfolio lead) will be speaking on several types of digital advancement and benefits to the workplace as well as current and emerging applications for AI in pharmacy services.

This webinar will cover the following learning objectives:

  • Explain the impact of AI on the pharmacy workforce
  • Explain how AI biases impact application in practice
  • Identify where digital advancements and AI is and can be used to advance pharmacy practice

Michael Bakker, Digital Health Portfolio Lead, SA Pharmacy, Adelaide, SA 

Michael Bakker is the Digital Health Portfolio Lead in SA Pharmacy and the current chair of the SHPA Electronic Medication Management Leadership Committee. Michael is a co-investigator on a project with Flinders’ University that was recently awarded $2.9 million through the Medical Research Future Fund – National Critical infrastructure round titled AutoMedic. The aim is to create a tool to support the delivery clinical pharmacy services in hospital by automating manual tasks and improving the timely recognition of medicines related risk. The project will be a collaboration between the Flinders University Digital Health Centre, SA Pharmacy and the Australian Institute of Machine Learning.  

Michael’s work interests include improving the digital maturity of the pharmacy workforce and harnessing technology to reduce and automate manual tasks to increase available time for additional direct patient care. He is a member of the board of governors of Parkinson’s South Australia, a member for the South Australian Hospital Research Foundation and has experience across community, hospital and pharmacy medication reviews prior to working in his current role.

 This activity has been accredited for 1 hour of Group-1 CPD (or 1 CPD credit), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.

 The accreditation number is: S2024/11.

Cancellation policy

  • Membership rate is only applicable if you are a member at the time of the seminar. Should your membership lapse, or if you resign you will be invoiced for the difference in registration.
  • Cancellations must be made in writing.
  • Cancellations received before 6 weeks prior to the event will receive a full refund. Non-members will be charged a $50 handling fee.
  • Cancellations received between 6 weeks and 1 week prior to the event will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.
  • Cancellations received less than a week prior to the event will NOT be refunded.
  • SHPA reserve the right to cancel a seminar or make changes to the program
  • If SHPA cancels or defers the event you will receive 100% of the registration fee but SHPA bears no responsibility for any costs incurred  (such as flights, accommodation, travel or expenses) or loss of income.
  • It is recommended that participants obtain adequate insurance cover for travel and accommodation.
  • Transfer of registration – as an alternative to cancellation your registration may be transferred to another member of your organisation or another event (if the chosen seminar is a higher cost you will be subject to further charges). A request MUST be made in writing to the Federal Secretariat prior to the event.
  • If you are unable to attend SHPA policy is that handouts can not be made available as ‘stand alone’ materials

Venue/Accessbility requirements

  • For special accessibility requirements for in-person events please complete the relevant section when registering online and this information will be forwarded to third parties.
  • SHPA are in no way responsible for any connectivity issues as a result of the participants internet connection or hardware issues or other external factors impacting the internet, that are out of SHPA’s control.

Catering/Dietary requirements

  • Please complete the necessary section when registering online. SHPA will notify third parties such as caterers/suppliers of any dietary requirements.
  • Whilst every care is taken to notify venues of dietary requirements, SHPA cannot guarantee completely allergy free meals, nor be held responsible for any adverse reaction. Any registrant who has notified SHPA of a dietary requirement should make themselves known to the seminar coordinator and/or venue staff upon their arrival.
  • Some dietary requirements such as Kosher meals may incur an additional cost which is the responsilbility of the delegate. SHPA will notify you in advance.

Recording/Filming

  • Recording and/or filming is not permitted by registrants. Please note this event may be recorded for the SHPA website and/or photos may be taken for use in SHPA resources and publications.
  • Registrants are not permitted to record or film any part of SHPA events in any format including audio recording or video recording or through use of mobile devices for filming

Registration

  • Numbers are capped so book early to avoid disappointment. Please note the only way to guarantee a space is to register online. Please ensure you register prior to booking your flights and accommodation.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation email then you are not registered for the event and will not be able to be accommodated on the day of the event. If you are following up on registration please ensure you contact the Federal Secretariat at least a week prior to the event.
