SA/NT Branch | Endocrinology Symposium
The SA/NT Branch is delighted to invite you to their 2024 Endocrinology Symposium, an event designed to provide an overview of endocrinology topics including menopause, steroid weaning and thyroid disorders.
This symposium aims to enhance pharmacists' knowledge and skills in endocrinology, showcasing presentations from influential clinicans in both SA and NT.

This will be a hybrid event, in-person and virtual.

Anna Fletcher, Senior Pharmacist – Education and Research – Regional and Senior Pharmacist - Virtual Telehealth, Limestone Coast Local Health Network
Anna Fletcher is a pharmacist who lives and works in South Australia. Her current role is Senior Pharmacist – Education and Research – Regional South Australia. She is also working clinically as a Senior Pharmacist – Virtual Telehealth in the Limestone Coast Local Health Network. Anna has previous experience working in a broad range of clinical pharmacy settings, including oncology, haematology, rheumatology, endocrinology, and dermatology. Interestingly, all of the clinical settings in which she has worked have steroid use as a common factor among their patient cohorts. She greatly enjoys educating and communicating with patients around steroid medications and is excited to be speaking with you all about this topic.

Associate Professor Jui Ho is a Senior Staff Specialist in Endocrinology at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. She completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide in the field of Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis regulation during critical illness and high-risk pregnancy.
She has a broad range of clinical interest including endocrine disorders in pregnancy, cancer therapy related endocrinopathies and disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Her current work provides her with opportunities to contribute to clinical medicine, education and developmental projects. She chairs the thyroid multidisciplinary meeting, serves on the RACP Endocrinology Advanced Trainee Committee and is a clinical associate professor at Flinders University. She was on the expert writing panel of Therapeutic Guidelines for Bone and Metabolism.
Genevive Stawarz, Dietitian & Credentialled Diabetes Educator, Gove District Hospital, NT Health
Genevieve is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Credentialed Diabetes Educator from Nhulunbuy, NT. I have worked in East Arnhem Land for just over 6 years, starting out as the outreach dietitian before taking on my current clinical role at Gove District Hospital in 2020. Before moving to the NT, I worked as a public health nutritionist delivering food literacy programs with Foodbank in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Growing up in rural Western Australia and understanding the impact of distance and isolation on health, I have always had a passion for rural and remote health. As a remote practitioner I strongly value my network of equally passionate colleagues and see collaboration and teamwork as crucial in providing client-centred quality care in a remote setting. I’ve always considered myself a jack of all trades and master of none, but after becoming a credentialed diabetes educator 3 years ago I have enjoyed specialising in diabetes management, particularly in a remote context. In my spare time, I love experiencing all the beautiful nature East Arnhem Land has to offer.
Cheryl Sanderson, Diabetes Nurse Educator, Mala’la Health Service Aboriginal Corporation, NT
Cheryl is an experienced Diabetes Nurse Educator and has worked as a nurse in Aboriginal primary health for over 20 years.
She is strongly committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people by providing the best Diabetes support, education and guidance in a culturally safe and respeectful way. She is always keen to collaborate, empower and share knowledge.
Cheryl has provided Diabetes services to rural and remote regions of Cerntral Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory's Top End and feels priviledged to travel to and provide Diabetes Education services to people acorss the West Arnherm region.
Dr Matt Hare, MBBS (Hons), BMedSc (Hons), FRACP, Endocrinologist, Department of Endocrinology, Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin, NT; Senior Research Officer, Menzies School of Health Research, Charles Darwin University, Darwin, NT
Dr Hare is an Endocrinologist and clinician-researcher whose work focuses on addressing the intergenerational impacts of diabetes and related conditions among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He is a Staff Specialist and Clinical Lead for Remote Services within the Endocrinology Department at Royal Darwin Hospital, and a Senior Research Fellow at Menzies School of Health Research. Dr Hare is also currently a Director of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society and serves on the Australian Diabetes Society Research Advisory Committee.
This activity has been accredited for 0.75 hours of Group-1 CPD and 2.25 hours of Group-2 CPD (for a total of 5.25 CPD credits), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.
The accreditation number is S2024/24.
The program addresses pharmacist competency standards, including:
- Standard 3.1.2 Assess medication management practices and needs
- Standard 3.2.2 Provide primary care and promote judicious use of medicines
- Standard 3.2.3 Dispense medicines (including compounded medicines) in consultation with the patient and/or prescriber
- Standard 3.3.1 Undertake a clinical review
- Standard 3.3.2 Apply clinical review findings to improve health outcomes
- Standard 3.5.1 Review trends in medicine use

Cancellation policy
- Membership rate is only applicable if you are a member at the time of the seminar. Should your membership lapse, or if you resign you will be invoiced for the difference in registration.
- Cancellations must be made in writing.
- Cancellations received before 6 weeks prior to the event will receive a full refund. Non-members will be charged a $50 handling fee.
- Cancellations received between 6 weeks and 1 week prior to the event will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee.
- Cancellations received less than a week prior to the event will NOT be refunded.
- SHPA reserve the right to cancel a seminar or make changes to the program
- If SHPA cancels or defers the event you will receive 100% of the registration fee but SHPA bears no responsibility for any costs incurred (such as flights, accommodation, travel or expenses) or loss of income.
- It is recommended that participants obtain adequate insurance cover for travel and accommodation.
- Transfer of registration – as an alternative to cancellation your registration may be transferred to another member of your organisation or another event (if the chosen seminar is a higher cost you will be subject to further charges). A request MUST be made in writing to the Federal Secretariat prior to the event.
- If you are unable to attend SHPA policy is that handouts can not be made available as ‘stand alone’ materials

Catering/Dietary requirements

Any registrant who has notified SHPA of a dietary requirement should make themselves known to the seminar coordinator and/or venue staff upon their arrival.
- Some dietary requirements such as Kosher meals may incur an additional cost which is the responsilbility of the delegate. SHPA will notify you in advance.
Recording/Filming
- Recording and/or filming is not permitted by registrants. Please note this event may be recorded for the SHPA website and/or photos may be taken for use in SHPA resources and publications.
- Registrants are not permitted to record or film any part of SHPA events in any format including audio recording or video recording or through use of mobile devices for filming
Registration
- Numbers are capped so book early to avoid disappointment. Please note the only way to guarantee a space is to register online. Please ensure you register prior to booking your flights and accommodation.
- If you do not receive a confirmation email then you are not registered for the event and will not be able to be accommodated on the day of the event. If you are following up on registration please ensure you contact the Federal Secretariat at least a week prior to the event.
