New Board for a new era: Three directors appointed
The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) announced a newly expanded Board of Directors today, marking the start of a new era driving change and fostering new opportunities through expanded scope of practice for Australia’s leading community of hospital pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy assistants.
Professor Michael Dooley, who was re-elected as SHPA President in December 2017 welcomed David Brennan, David Butt and Lindsay Cane to the Board of Directors as new expert appointments, positions enabled by members’ overwhelming support of a new, contemporary SHPA Constitution in September last year.
Professor Dooley says the new Board will bring broad strategic experience and expertise at a time of strong organisational growth and a rapidly evolving pharmacy landscape.
‘Not only is membership reaching new heights, but our growing suite of complementary member-driven programs is ensuring SHPA is the essential professional partner of pharmacists and technicians committed to making a difference in the challenging and complex hospital setting.
‘SHPA is supporting members through a stronger national voice on systemic issues, renewed focus on specialty disciplines and new student initiatives, and shaping the strategic direction of the new Advancing Practice program through the Advanced Practice Collaborative.
‘SHPA believes that entrenching the robust Advancing Practice rubric into Australian pharmacy practice is the most effective way to ensure the growing stature and expanded scope of practice of Australian pharmacists and technicians is respected and valued.’
Professor Dooley says 2018 will see SHPA release its vision for the future of Australian pharmacy practitioner development, to the ultimate benefit of the broader profession and Australian patients.
‘Our new Board appointments mean SHPA has the people in place, as well as the vision, programs and services, to support members as they drive their careers forward.’
New to the SHPA Board of Directors in 2018:
- David Brennan is an experienced investment banking executive and company Director across financial, resources and healthcare sectors. With degrees in Business Law and Finance, David brings a wealth of contemporary leadership experience to SHPA as well as an entrepreneurial commitment to social causes: David was the founding Chairman of the Dry July Foundation, the Australian Corporate Ambassador to UNICEF and an advisory board member at the ATO representing the not-for-profit sector.
- Lindsay Cane brings experience as a seasoned CEO and Director to SHPA, having led national and state health agencies, sporting organisations, not-for-profit and private sector businesses. Lindsay is currently CEO of the Royal Far West, which provides specialist medical care and allied health support services for children in remote NSW, a member of the NSW Ministerial Advisory Committee for Rural Health, and non-Executive Director of the Confederation of Australian Sport and Australian Masters Games, having also led Netball Australia and a private communications consultancy.
