Grampians Regional Internship in partnership with Ballarat Health Services
Ballarat Health Services (BHS) is the largest regional health service in the Grampians region, employing approximately 4000 staff. It is the principal referral hospital for the region. Ballarat Health Services works to improve the health and wellbeing of its patients, their families and the community.
Campuses where pharmacy intern will work:
- Primary site: Ballarat Health Services (BHS) – Ballarat Base Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Centre
- Possible rotations to Wimmera Health Care Group (Horsham), West Wimmera Health Service (Nhill), Stawell Regional Health, East Grampians Health Service (Ararat)

This is an exciting opportunity to explore the spectacular Grampians region of Victoria whilst undertaking a supported, collaborative and innovative hospital pharmacy internship focused on delivery of care to Victorians living in rural and regional areas.
Program overview
A comprehensive 4-month orientation program will be provided at BHS focusing on the development of clinical pharmacy skills in acute inpatient services, plus dispensing and manufacturing (extemporaneous and aseptic) competence.
Three rotations (2–6 weeks duration) to participating Grampians regional sites will occur throughout the year, focusing on further skill development in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services, attendance at multidisciplinary and committee meetings, drug distribution and provision of education to community groups. Tailored learning plans will be provided for each rotation.
At BHS, rotations will incorporate all aspects of Pharmacy Department services including general and specialty clinical rotations including rotation to ambulatory care outpatient clinics, Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) Pharmacy services, medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).
The Grampians regional intern will be allocated an individual preceptor who is a BHS pharmacist and credentialed Monash University Clinical Pharmacy Educator.
Weekly tutorials will be provided by BHS pharmacists with attendance facilitated via videoconferencing during Grampians regional rotations. Tutorial topics include disease states, drug classes and primary health care. Extensive assistance with preparation for both the written and oral registration examinations will occur throughout the year.
BHS also offers the Monash University Intern Foundation program.
All Grampians regional sites provide access to hospital accommodation at no charge to the intern.
Applicants for this internship should hold a driver's license, and be willing to travel to and from their placement sites.
