ANZCAP welcomes 6 brand new specialty areas!

Today, SHPA is pleased to announce that the Australian and New Zealand College of Advanced Pharmacy (ANZCAP) has launched six brand new areas of specialty!

The six new specialty areas are:

  • Anticoagulation
  • Men's health
  • Public health
  • Rehabilitation
  • Rural and remote health
  • Toxicology

Pharmacists recognised through ANZCAP can select up to two specialty areas to be recognised in, including the above. Those who have already been recognised through ANZCAP will receive an email this week inviting them to review their areas of specialty and amend them to reflect one of the new additions if it better suits their practice.

This is an exciting next step for ANZCAP as we expand the recognition opportunities available to better reflect the ever-expanding scope of pharmacy practice today. Each of these specialty areas are of increasing importance within Australia’s healthcare system, and are fields in which dedicated pharmacy professionals are shaping practice each day.

Amy Thomson, a Specialist in Poisons Information at the NSW Poisons Information Centre, has recently obtained Consultant recognition in the new Toxicology specialty of ANZCAP. Having specialised in toxicology through her post-graduate training and recognition both locally and internationally, Amy says:

‘Having Toxicology recognised as a specialty by ANZCAP means that individuals who have done extensive training in the area can be more readily recognised at a national and international level, including establishing future clinical and research collaborations.’

In addition, Peter Fairgray is the first to be recognised as a Men’s Health specialty consultant through the program.

‘As the first pharmacist in Queensland to provide Men's Health Downunder, I am honoured to be the first pharmacist recognised for the Men's Health specialty through ANZCAP.

It's great to have a platform that gives community pharmacists like myself recognition for the skills and expertise they’ve acquired over the course of their careers.’

Access to ANZCAP is free for SHPA members and available via the ANZCAP website. The ANZCAP Foundation Program will be available until April 2024.
